<reviewbody>A great sample of Howe Gelb + drummer John Convertino (now w/ Calexico). 2 piece guitar/drums set. Way before the White Stripes and the Black Keys were doing it.. Quality is very very good on this one!

Enjoy..</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>every time i listen to Giant Sand/Howe i feel that i get another insight as to what he's tryin to do, but of course i'm just fooling myself. it's alot like goin' after a chick, the chase is the fun part...

<reviewbody>It's misleading to describe this download as 'Giant Sand.' The listener will most likely be disappointed if he expects Giant Sand style south-western psychedelic acoustic rock. This Gelb & Convertino show is straight ahead alt-rock. Giantarchivist accurately compared it to the White Stripes. While good, it's not as dynamic as the actual Giant Sand shows such as 10-15-04 (Muhle Hunziken, Rubigen, CHE). I appreciate having this here due to the IA's classification system, but listener beware. The sound quality is excellent and the music is good for what it is; appreciate it as yet another of those Tucson off-shoots.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>The first Giant Sand album I fell for from start to finish was 1989's _Long Stem Rant_. Although this show pre-dates that album by a few months, it has a very similar feel, and feature the same line-up. An excellent representation of where Giant Sand was at at the time, and quite enjoyable to boot. While the audio sounds a bit compressed (which is only to be expected given the broadcast source), this is as good a sounding FM recording as one could hope for from '89.

If you're only familiar with turn of the century Giant Sand, do yourself a favour & give this show a shot.</reviewbody>
